Unidentified miscreants stole Rs25,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs3 lakh from a car in Bairagarh township on Wednesday. The police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the miscreants.

According to the Bairagarh police, the complainant Manish Tehlyani had come to Bhopal from Ujjain in connection with getting his passport prepared. On the way, he stopped at Sant Kanwarram Square in Bairagarh for some refreshments.By locking the car, he entered a restaurant and when he returned, the window glass of the vehicle were found broken and the cash and valuables were missing from the car.

The incident took place from 11.15 to 11.45 am, when the car remained parked at the square. Manish immediately contacted police and subsequently, a police team reached the spot. During preliminary investigation, it was found that the CCTV cameras installed at the square did not function.

Police official said that the cameras stopped functioning last month, but could not be repaired, otherwise, it could have helped in identifying the miscreants. Ironically, a police outpost is situated hardly a few feet away from the scene of crime, but no policeman was present there. Manish claimed that he had brought gold ornaments for some work in Bhopal and they have also been taken away. He claimed that the cost of the ornaments was around Rs3 lakh, but the police have not mentioned the estimated cost of the gold jewellery in the FIR.
