An initiative taken by the newly-appointed Gwalior SP, said that our police are going all out to ambush the criminals rather beating around the bush to catch culprits.
In an innovative and valiant move the Gwalior SP has formed a team of undercover police personnel to monitor the criminal activities in the city, especially during night times.
The number of drunken brawls in the city has been on the rise in recent times as the liquor shops remain open way beyond the stipulated closing time. However, such lawbreakers and criminals are having a hard time these days as the undercover police, posing as public or employees of nearby eateries are everywhere ready to pick them up.
The covert police personnel have also been instructed to keep watch on the police stations and police personnel on duty to keep them honest.
Two days back a sub-inspector of the Padav police station was suspended for dereliction of duty while on patrol duty near the Railway Station. The liquor shop situated just outside the Railway Station was selling liquor even after midnight and it was found out that the liquor shop was indulging in this illegal activity with the connivance of the sub-inspector.
According to sources, in the SP office the undercover cops have been asked to take photographs and videos of illegal activities, including police inactivity and misconducts, and send them to the SP on whatsapp.
It was learnt that such undercover operations at strategic and sensitive areas will be a regular thing now. It is expected that cops on ambush duty, dressed in plain clothes and moving around in private cabs will complement and supplement the existing police force which in turn will certainly help to curb the crime in the city.
