Three girls drown while taking bath at Kaliasot Dam

SR

Three girls in the age group of 7 to 10 years drowned at Kaliasot Dam under Kamla Nehru police station area on Thursday. There has been several incidents of similar nature in past few years at the same dam, but authorities have not taken it seriously to man this water body with divers.

At the VIP road by the upper lake situated in the heart of the city, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deputed three divers claiming that it has become a suicide point and people approach this road only to end life by jumping into the lake. However, water bodies like Kaliasor dam remained unmanned till date.

According to the police, at around 1 pm the three girls had gone to take bath at the backwater of the dam which was at the backside of their locality. While taking bath they accidentally went into deep water and drowned.

No one from the family and locality had information about the girls. The three deceased have been identified as Shalini (10), Shakeena (7) and Shivansani (7) of residents of Ganga Nagar society. The locals used to bath at the backwater but at the time of the incident no one was present at the spot.

The reason of the incident could not be ascertained as there was no eye witness. The circumstantial evidences suggest that the victims died due to drowning but they were only spotted after their death which is a matter of investigation, told police.

The family members and locals protested at the Kamla Nagar police station and demanded the inquiry of the reasons of death. Fearing that the protest might turn nasty, after the post-mortem the bodies were handed over to the families for the last rites. The police have registered a case under section 174 of

the CrPC.
