A three-day theatre festival ‘7th Srijan Utsav 2013’ would begin at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan from Tuesday. The festival is being  jointly organised by Youngs Theatre Bhopal and Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Bhopal in the memory of KS Sudarshan.

The festival would be inaugurated by Indresh Kumar, Swayamsevak Sangh and Minister of Culture Madhya Pradesh, laxmikant Sharma.

While talking to The Pioneer, founder and director of Youngs Theatre Bhopal, Sarfaraz Hasan said, “This three-day theatre festival is being organized not to just entertain the theatre goers of the city, but it is dedicated to Damini rape case. Further, it is dedicated to all the females who go through the similar situations and struggle to overcome the nightmare.”

Elaborating further, he said, “Each and every play is a question on society as to why the culprits are left without any consequences and the girl has to suffer.” The first play that would be staged on Tuesday ‘Manji- Ek Aur Damini’ clearly defines the concept of the theatre festival, he added.

Written by a noted playwright of the city Yogesh Tripathi, the play decribes the pain and grief a girl goes through. While explaining about the play Sarfaraz said, “The play is an adaptation of a true incident that happened at Satna.” This would be the 16th show of the play. “Earlier the play was known as ‘Manji’, but after the Delhi case we did some manipulations in the scenes and named it as Manji- Ek Aur Damini,” Sarfaraz added.

Another play, ‘Ache Aadmi’ written by Rajesh Joshi would be staged on July 3 and ‘Adarsh Ghotala- Kya Family Hai’ written by Pramod Singh would be staged on July 4.

As many as 30 artists are participating in the festival out of which 26 artists would be testing their talent on stage for the first time. Besides, few youngsters would be awarded for their outstanding performance in theatres. “I feel that senior artists are always given some or the other appreciation, but youngsters should also be appreciated. So the awards are for the youngsters in theatres,” he added. The festival would conclude here on Thursday.
