The smart Khala from Khala Kamal Ki and the witty Dulha Bhai from Maan Gaye Dulha Bhai come together on stage to narrate the lifespan of Hamidullah Khan aka ‘Mamu’.
Adakaar theatre group of Bhopal is organising a three- day festival Jashn-e-Mamu in honour of Hamidullah Khan. Hamidullah Khan is better known as ‘Mamu’ by Bhopalites. The ‘original Bhopali’ as they say, is retiring from his bank job.
He introduced a celebrated theatre festival ‘Iftekhaar Theatre Festival’ in city of lakes, inviting theatre artists from across the country to stage the plays.
The festival too completed 26 years.
While talking about the festival the renowned playwright of the city Rafi Shabbir threw light on Mamu’s personality.
He told The Pioneer, “With twisting the two stories we have tried to tell the ups and downs of Mamu’s life.”
“Hamidullah Khan’s life was a total mess, but after his wife’s decision, his lifestyle took a U-turn and rest is what they say is history,” said Rafi Shabbir contently.
Interestingly, Rafi wrote the play Well Done Mamu Well Done and it is directed by Farrukh Sher Khan which will be staged on the first day of the fest.
Commenting on this, Rafi said, “We have merged our two famous plays Khala Kamal Ki and Maan Gaye Dulha Bhai and here we have added a character who plays Mamu’s role.
The entire story plot is interesting and will be fun to watch.”
The fest will kick-start from March 29 with the Hindi play ‘Well Done Mamu, Well Done’ at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan.
On March 30, ‘Ek Shaam Sadabahar Geeton ke Naam’ will be held.
Finally, the fest will have a closure on March 31 with an evening of calm and melodious ghazalas.
“This will be the first time ever that the young ghazal singers of Bhopal will be performing together on stage,” added Rafi.
As Rafi shared his seven years with Hamidullah Khan, he said, “I am planning to write a book on his wit in future.”
“The story of the play surrounds divorce and especially we have narrated about triple talaq according to Muslim Shariyah as people don’t know much about it,” informed Rafi.
