The month long theatre writing workshop concluded at Swaraj Sansthan, Ravindra Bhawan premises here on Friday. Organised by Madhya Pradesh School of Drama (MPSD), the workshop began on June 7 at MPSD’s premises for the budding writers to enter the theatres as playwrights.
The conclusion of the workshop was done with the recital of the selected plays before the participants. As many as 75 plays were prepared throughout the workshop by 25 participants from across the State. While talking to The Pioneer, Director of MPSD Sanjay Upadhyay said, “Each participant was asked to write three plays and prepare a concept. Every participant came out with different and unique ideas and their work and writing are tremendously commendable.”
Elaborating further, he said, “It was really difficult to choose the three bet out of 75 plays as all the scripts are different from each other and also are connected to society in some way or the other.” The three selected plays included Kagaaz Ka Aaina by Rafi Shabbir (Bhopal), Shamshan Parv by Vishal Kalambkar (Ujjain) and Shabd Shesh by Sunita Singh (Bhopal). While explaining further, Sanjay said, “Through this play writing workshop we wanted the budding writers to work from perception to conception and so we invited three noted playwrights Asif Ali Haider Khan, Yogesh Tripathi and Rameshwar Prem to teach the basics of play writing to the participants.”
While talking about play Kagaaz Ka Aaina Rafi Shabbir said, “This story is based on the suicide of Jiah Khan. It deals with a different aspect of suicides in Bollywood, isolation of actors and their broken relationships and dreams. The story surrounds how a print media journalist tackles with the situations that come in her way.” On the other hand, another participant Sunita Singh said, “I have collected a bundle of memories through the month long workshop. I have written plays for radio broadcastings, but writing a play for theatres had been a different experience for me as we all participants dealt with different challenges and new opportunities.”
All the three plays would be staged later. Currently MPSD is preparing for a five-day theatre festival to be organised as a farewell for the batch 2012-13, added Sanjay. Many theatre personalities were noticed on the occasion, including Alok Chhatterjee, Vaishali Gupta, Ashok Bulani and many others.
