Under the film screenings being organised at Bharat Bhavan, The Song of Sparrows was screened on Sunday at Abhirang Auditorium, Bharat Bhavan. The Song of Sparrows is a 2008 Iranian movie directed by Majid Majidi. It tells the story of Karim, a man, who works at an ostrich farm until he is fired after one of the ostriches escapes. He finds a new job in Tehran, but he faces new problems in his personal life.

This film opened to critical acclaim. When an ostrich-rancher focuses on replacing his daughter's hearing aid, which breaks right before crucial exams, everything changes for a struggling rural family in Iran. Karim motorbikes into a world alien to him - incredibly hectic Tehran, where sudden opportunities for independence, thrill and challenge him. But his honour and honesty, plus traditional authority over his inventive clan, are tested, as he stumbles among vast cultural and economic gaps between his village nestled in the desert, and a throbbing international metropolis.

Karim works at an ostrich farm outside of Tehran, Iran. He leads a simple and contented life in his small house with his wife Narges, and three children, whom he loves and tries to make happy.

One day when he is in the farm, he is told to return home early as his elder daughter - Haniyeh - has lost her hearing aid. As soon as they discover the hearing aid, he approaches the hospital and learns that he has to wait up to four months to get the aid repaired for free; otherwise he has to go to Tehran city to replace it immediately.

As his daughter's exam is approaching, he is worried about getting the hearing aid promptly. Shortly after, when they are moving new ostriches into the farm, one of the ostriches escaped, Karim is blamed for the loss and is fired from the farm, now from here the twist in the story takes place. The adherent movie lovers were noticed at the hall enjoying the film whole heartedly. Further, artistes of the city were also observed at the screening.
