Harassed by teasing, a 21-year-old girl set herself ablaze in Rishi Nagar under Nasrullahganj police station area on Thursday. The condition of the victim is still critical.
According to the police, victim was constantly harassed by her neighbour Sanjeev Yadav alias Sanju. The accused is still at large.The victim in her statement to the police claimed that the accused has been harassing her for long. She said that when he found her alone on Thursday morning he barged into her house and attempted to rape her. However, she raised an alarm, locals reached the place. He fled away.
Embarrassed over the rape attempt and constant teasing she decided to take extreme step and set her afire. The neighbours rushed her to a nearby private hospital but looking at the serious nature of burns she was referred to Bhopal.Police said, the victim left her studies after class VIII and used to live at home with the family.During the investigation it was found that the accused used to tease the victim for the past three months.
The police have registered a case under section 376, 454 and 511 of the IPC and have launched a manhunt to nab the miscreant. He used to pass lewd comments on the victim whenever and wherever she used to go she was followed by the accused. locals said that the complaint regarding the accused was lodged with the police but the police were not ready to pay heed on the complaint and no action was taken against the accused.
