Talks not enough, military action needed to tackle terror: Sri Sri

Staff Reporter

Art of living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Sunday claimed that intolerance is not visible to him anywhere in the country.

To a query, he said, "Besides being a globetrotter, I travel to various Indian states in connection with numerous creative projects. Even in the course of the past one to one-and-a-half decades, several incidents occurred. Why that not impacted anybody's consciousness," he wondered.

He was talking to media persons here. When asked why he appeared to favour rightists, Sri Sri said it might be people's perception and added that he works in all places despite different parties being in power in various states.

He felt that it would be in haste to comment on a statement, made during the general election, about depositing lakhs of rupees in every citizen's account after bringing back black money from abroad. "I hope things will gradually fall into place," he said.

To another query, the spiritual leader said that only peace talks are not enough to combat the terror group, ISIS. Simultaneous military action is essential too.

"Dialogue for peace along with military action is required to be undertaken simultaneously, because they don't understand other people in the world have rights too. They have killed more than 1 lakh Muslims till date," he added.

In March this year, the Art of living chief received death threats from the terror group ISIS while he was touring Malaysia. Regarding the differences between view points on terrorism, Sri Sri accepted that there was certainly a difference between the 26/11 attack in India and the Paris attack.

He said, "Terrorism is a global threat and has the same face everywhere. But when things happen in India, it doesn't appear in main headlines worldwide. Boko Haram has killed more than 400 people in Nigeria recently and terrible attacks happened in countries like Pakistan and Turkey. Iraq is terror-prone and bomb blasts happen every day."
