Taai calls on CM Nath, creates buzz in State

Staff Reporter

Amidst high voltage political drama that started in the State Assembly on Wednesday, former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan called on Chief Minister Kamal Nath here on the same day.

In the present political scenario, the meeting is being considered important. It was the same day when Chief Minister Kamal Nath foxed the BJP and made two BJP MLAs cast their votes in their favour during a vote division on a Bill.

Amid this politically charged atmosphere, the former Lok Sabha Speaker was also present in Bhopal for taking part in a function organised by Income Tax Department.

However, on the sidelines of her visit, Taai as Mahajan is fondly addressed in Madhya Pradesh paid a visit to Nath and had a meeting that lasted for over 50 minutes. Sources claimed that the discussion focussed on various topics including the current political scenario in the State.

Those in the know claimed Taai had called on Nath primarily in connection with a proposed Ahilyabai memorial to be built in Indore. Ahead of assembly polls, the Indore Development Authority had forwarded a proposal for building this memorial and then Chief Minister had assigned in principal approval but since the change of guard in the power, the project was shelved.

The proposed memorial would have pictorial history of Ahilyabai Holkar, the erstwhile ruler of Indore, wall paintings and a mini theatre.

Sources said that Chief Minister Kamal Nath was positive to Mahajan’s demands and also issued necessary instructions regarding the project.
