New academic session commenced in the city from Monday amid mixed reactions from the school students. While students of private schools of the city on the first day of new academic session were greeted with refurbished school buildings and campus, the scenario was quiet opposite in the Government schools where amenities for school students were found to be far from satisfactory.
Students of Nutan School and Maharaja Shivaji Rao School upon entering their schools were greeted by rainwater in their classrooms, while in Chhawni, students had to wade through slush to reach their classrooms. Condition of other government schools in the city was almost same.
The only saving grace for the students of government schools was that they were greeted with garlands by the school teacher and were provided with free books. Besides cheques were also distributed among those students who fulfilled the criteria for the school uniforms and bicycles.
As compared to government schools, condition of private schools in the city was comparatively better as students of these schools were greeted with refurbished school buildings and spic and span campus.
Since early morning on Monday, school students after spending their summer vacations, were seen visting their schools in auto-ricksahws, buses.
However, contrary to the RTO ruling, auto-rickshaws were found to be over-crowded with school students with a large number of auto-rickshaw drivers carrying over five students in contravention to the RTO guidelines.
