Summer vacation workshop 'Creative Science', being organised from Wednesday at Regional Science Centre, Bhopal is evoking a mesmerising response by the school students. On the third day of the workshop, students prepared a working model of JCB truck.

As many as 20 students from different schools of Bhopal have participated in the workshop to enhance their knowledge about science and its various streams. Through fun learning activities, the students are exploring the unknown and unique facts about science not only attending lectures, but also practically. On Friday, the students prepared a working model of JCB truck and enjoyed it to the fullest. The students were made aware of the various working functions of the truck.

The students constructed it with the help of plastic syringes and saline tubes for transmitting hydraulic pressure.

As it was a working model, this multi-purpose earth moving machine prepared by middle school children can dig, lift and load. When the syringe is pulled or pushed water is transmitted through saline tubes and lowers the bucket to activate other movements.

While talking about the model to The Pioneer, education officer of Regional Science Centre Charudatta Pulliwar said, "This working model is a part of Hydraulics, a topic in applied science and engineering dealing with the mechanical properties of liquids. In fluid power, hydraulics is used for the generation, control, and transmission of power by the use of pressurized liquids."

Hydraulic topic is a part of science and most of engineering modules that cover concepts such as pipe flow, dam design, fluidics and fluid control circuitry, pumps, turbines, river channel behavior and erosion, he added.

Children made the model out of foam sheet base, square pieces of PVC pipe, two syringes of 5 ml and two syringes of 50 ml.

The children are mesmerizing, learning the concept with a lot of fun as these activities have made the difficult concepts easier for them to understand.
