The eighth All India Students' Conference organised by All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) concluded here on Thursday calling upon the students of the country to rise up and intensify their struggle against anti-educational policies of the Congress led Union Government at Centre and different State governments of Congress, BJP and other parties.
In its main resolution, which was unanimously passed by the delegates with certain amendments, outlined different educational policies of the governments that have led to the utter ruination of the education in the country. The present state of education can be traced back to the National Policy of Education of 1986. It opened the education system in the country to the forces of the market which led to its commercialization.
This state of affairs only worsened with implementation of the reports of the subsequent Birla-Ambani committee, National Knowledge Commission (NKC), Yashpal Committee, Anil Kakodkar Committee and others. The lyngdoh Committee furthered the interests of these forces by severely limiting the freedom of elected student bodies.
The attack on democratic system of education has now spread to all fields and aspects of education.
The three-day delegate session comprising of students from 26 states discussed at length the various educational and social issues that plague the students in the country. The conference had also unanimously passed eight resolutions relating to various socio-political issues other than the General Secretary's report. The conference also called on students to strengthen their resolve and evolve new measures to resist all such attacks on education. Delving further in to the issues at hand, the conference also agreed to fight vigorously against the profit — oriented capitalist system that is the root cause of all these problems in the field of education.
The conference also elected the new All India Council of the organization comprising of 167 members with Kamal Sain (West Bengal) as President and Ashok Mishra (Orissa) as General Secretary. The conference also elected as Vice - Presidents Mukesh Semawal (Gujarat), Gopal Sahu (West Bengal), Bhaskaranand (Delhi), VN Rajasekhar (Karnataka), Akai Das (Orissa).
