A model rocketry workshop is being organised at the Regional Science Centre here from Monday as part of the summer vacation workshops for the middle school children with a view to familiarising them with the facts of science in a fun learning way.
This is the second batch of summer workshops being held at the science centre. On the first day as many as 21 students from different schools of Bhopal participated in the workshop. They took part in the activity with a lot of enthusiasm. It was an enthralling experience for the students.
On the third day, they would launch their mock rockets. The five-day workshop would continue till May 23. The workshop was initiated with a Power Point presentation on principles of model rocketry followed by a live demonstration.
During the first session of the workshop, the students were briefed on the basic principles of rocketry, its history, its parts and its significance in modern days. They were made aware about the beginning of rocketry and various innovations as well.
In the second session, the students prepared the rockets using readymade solid fuel and pastel paper. They prepared all the parts of the rocket and assembled them successfully. Interestingly, each student individually prepared one rocket on the first day of the workshop and also named their rockets according to their choice.
While talking to The Pioneer, the Education Officer of the Regional Science Centre, MM Rout, said, “Through various presentations the students were exposed to different parts of a rocket such as engine, body tube, coupling tube, nose cone, fins, thrusting and launching lug and their functions it was followed by a live demo on how to prepare these parts and connect them properly.”
During this workshop, before launching these rockets, the students will also prepare an altitude tracker to measure the height of launched rocket. “We are really contented that the students are really enthusiastic about these science activities being organized at the city,” added Rout.
