Madhya Pradesh Commerce and Industry Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Friday urged Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to cease emotional blackmailing about his family to the public and said instead he should have informed about the “achievements” during the United Progressive Alliance’s tenure.
In a statement issued on Friday, he said, “In his maiden address after donning the mantle of vice-chief at a Congress convention in Jaipur, Gandhi spoke emotionally about his mother and that was provided extensive publicity by media. Since then, he has not only been constantly trying to attract the populace through the medium of impassioned speeches but also making an unsuccessful attempt to divert attention from crucial issues.”
In Rajasthan’s Churu, Gandhi referred to some family matters in the context of the deaths of his paternal grandmother and father, said Vijayvargiya while adding that the demise of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi saddened everyone but over the past decade lakhs of Indians fell victim to the UPA’s adverse governance. “During UPA rule, foreign foes decapitated Indian soldiers at the border. Who will shed tears for these IndiansIJ Gandhi should explain why corruption, depreciation of the rupee, price rise and unemployment assumed hideous proportions during UPA tenure,” he said.
Insecurity on the border and Naxalism spurted during UPA rule even as foreign investors’ confidence declined, Vijayvargiya alleged while wondering where Gandhi and his sentimentalism were at those junctures.
Referring to the disturbances that followed Indira Gandhi’s assassination during Congress tenure, he sought a reply from the party and added that the country should not be subjected to emotional torture.
