The District Administration and the Gwalior Municipal Corporation have embarked on an ambitious program to revamp and restore the seven architectural buildings that are arranged in an oval ring at Maharaja Bada, Gwalior.

This place was once the capital of the central province under the colonial rule.

Gwalior is counted among the top historical and heritage sites in the country attracting tourists from all over the world.  Visitors from around the country and outside throng this place to explore the cultural richness of it.

According to Vinod Sharma, the Gwalior Municipal Commissioner the revamp and restoration of the historical monuments will be carried out under the Smart City Project.

The commissioner further said that the revamp will begin with the 150 year old Victoria Market which was gutted down in a ghastly fire about ten years ago.

Before the fire it was a market hub housing hundreds of small and medium shops, mainly stationery ones.

According to the current plan the monument will be revamped and converted into a museum that will house historical artifacts and documents for the benefit of the tourists.

Among the architectural monuments in Bada, the Town Hall is in the most depleted condition with crumbling walls and leaking interiors.

All around this heritage building one can see stalls under canopies set up by vendors.

For reasons unknown the authorities had never shown any interest in preserving this historical building.

The sources in the Smart City said that the site will be revamped to its earlier beauty and splendor.

Speaking to the media persons, Mahip Tejaswi, the CEO of the Smart City Project said that under the Smart City Project, the Post Office, Gorkhi Structure, the State Bank of India building, the Government Press and the old Corporation Office building too will be given a face lift.

Earlier the District Collector, Bharat Yadav had visited all the historical buildings with the Smart City officials and had given instructions to complete the restoration work within the stipulated time.
