After forming a State-level committee to look into the problems of farmers, the State government has now started process to withdraw cases lodged against farmers.
Most of the cases lodged against farmers were in 2017 when a number of farmers’ agitations held in Madhya Pradesh.
The agitation was marred with violence in latter stage and the police had booked thousands of farmers for indulging in violence and disrupting law and order.
Rashtriya Kisan Mazdur Mahasangh led by Shiv Kumar Sharma ‘Kakkaji’ and Bharatiya Kisan Union led by Anil Yadav had raised this issue of cases against farmers during their meetings with the Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Saturday.
In accordance with the assurances offered to the farm unions, Chief Minister Kamal Nath has issued orders to withdraw cases lodged against the farmers.
Nath had entrusted this responsibility to Home Minister Bala Bachchan who would be presenting a proposal in this regard in the next cabinet meeting, sources in Mantralaya said.
The state government in the past too had offered assurances to farmers that cases registered against farmers would be
withdrawn.
The farm unions had recently given strike call in phased manner in Madhya Pradesh over dearth of fertilisers, seeds, issues in loan waiver, including fruits, vegetables and milk in Minimum Support Price ambit, Bhavantar payments, purchase of crops under MSP and other issues.
The strike was withdrawn following an assurance from the Chief Minister. Dev Narayan Patel, RKMS state president told that besides other things, the organisation had demanded withdrawal of cases slapped on
farmers and the Chief Minister had offered an assurance on the same, claimed Patel.
