The Madhya Pradesh government has again taken U-turn over serving egg as nutritious food to the children in mid-day meal. A few days back the state government had agreed to the recommendation of union minister Maneka Gandhi to serve egg as nutritious food to the children in mid-day meal.

However, on Monday Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan went to take blessings of Jain Saint Vidya Sagar who visited the state capital after thirteen years raised questions over his own old order by saying that as long as he is the chief minister egg would not be served in the schools of the state. Chief Minister also held the media responsible for such news at the Habibgunj Jain temple.

On January 19 Vivek Agarwal secretary of chief minister wrote to School Education Department to follow the guidelines of the letter dated December 15, 2015 of union minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi. Acting on that the upper secretary of the School Education Department Kalawati Uike wrote to all the collectors of the state to follow recommendations of union minister. As soon as the news of that came out opposition of the order started but the chief minister on Monday declined of any such possibility in front of Jain saint.

last days Gandhi officially wrote a letter to chief minister Chouhan drawing his attention towards the problem of obesity in children. “The use of food with more fat,   salt and sugar is badly impacting the health of children in the country. Keeping in mind this a high level committee has been constituted. The committee recommended to ban junk food likes potato chips, carbonated cold drinks, noodles, pizza, burger, chocolates, chewing gums, jalebi, imarti, gulab jamun etc from the menu of children. Besides the committee advocated feeding eggs to the children, so that their health did not get deteriorated,” said Maneka in her letter.
