The socio-economic policies of the Government in last 62 years have led to growth of Naxalism in the country,” noted the political resolution adopted by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State executive on Thursday. The recent attack of Maoist rebels in Chhattisgarh killing leading Congressmen was the prominent theme of the resolution which noted that out of the 62 years after independence, the Congress was in power for 55 years.
“Although the Congress is agitated over the naxalite violence in Chhattisgarh today, one of its national general secretary and a former chief minister did not even acknowledge naxalism as a violent activity some times back. When BJP was saying that Naxalism has grown into terrorism, the Congress leaders used to support the Naxalites,” the resolution notes, adding that the recent incident in Chhattisgarh could be avoided if strong action against the Naxals had been taken earlier.
The resolution calls for the Centre to show determination to counter the extremists in coordination with State governments. “However, there is a clear lack of such determination in the UPA Government. It is due to lack of this determination that terrorism is growing in the country. Today the country needs the will power of Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA which had framed strict laws like POTA to counter terrorism. But UPA has given a chance for terrorism to flourish by revoking that law,” the executive noted.
The State executive also commended Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for formulating a strict law against terrorism which has been sent to the Centre for approval. The executive has alleged that owing to its policy of appeasement, the Centre has withheld the law.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was targeted by the executive, which alleged, “For the first time after independence our country has such a helpless Prime Minister. The ill effects of this weakness are now clearly visible. Our foreign policy has totally collapsed. Taking advantage of this weakness China could enter 18 km inside our territory.”
The Centre was hit on several counts including inflation, corruption, FDI policy and also for alleged violation of federal structure of government in the country. It also accused the Centre of discriminating against the state in development and welfare schemes. At the same time, the executive whole-heartedly praised the State government claiming that several development and welfare works have been initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
