Three short plays were staged on the fifth day of the theatre festival at Ravindra Bhawan Auditorium, here on Friday.
The short plays included Intekhab, Saanp by Ismat Chughtai were staged before the theatre goers of the city. later, Bade Bhai Sahab by Munshi Premchand was again staged on the fifth day. Directed by Ahmed Khan, the plays were splendidly performed by the artists of Nazar Group. The first play, Saanp (Snake) by Ismat Chughtai dealt with the relationship between a brother and a sister. The siblings after being orphaned at young age by the destiny were left alone to deal with the upcoming hurdles of life. Though the concept of the play is tragic, but the play I wonderfully wrapped up in comedy genre. As both of them grow in age, they wanted to get settled in life and wanted to get married.
Coping up with each other’s different perceptions towards life, a rift arises between the brother and sister’s tender relationship. They both create hurdles in each other’s wedding ceremonies giving rise to comic situations. What happens next as they both realise their mistake formed rest of the story.
The next play Intekhab is also one of the creations by Ismat Chughtai. This play I love triangle and deal with the life situations that rarely happen in an individual’s life. It is a story of a person whose niece and nephew come to live at his place. He is a person who gives more value to his perception and thinking. The story takes a turn when the niece fall for a guy and her cousin also fall for the same guy. The comedy ensues when the truth comes out.
later, Bade Bhai Sahab by Munshi Premchand was also staged as filler at the show. The artists of the play maintained the interest of the audiences as they performed mesmerisingly. Further, the audiences burst out laughing as the situational comedy was presented before them. Further, Hindi play Khubsoorat Bala by Agha Hashr Kashmiri would be staged on Saturday and Sunday at Ravindra Bhavan to conclude the festival.
