Albeit huge claims of availability of health facilities across the State, a Sehore family after failing to avail medicine for their son suffering from rare immunodeficiency disorder applied for mass suicide to the District Collector.

Sehore is just 35 kilometers from the State capital.Seven-year-old Vishnu Sharma is suffering from a very rare disease ‘x linked agammaglobulinemia’ which requires an injection worth Rs 16,500 thrice a month making the cost unbearable for the family which is facing financial woes after spending their earnings on a failed bid to save their elder son who died of the same disorder and trying to save their ailing son.

For the treatment of the child around Rs 25 lakh would be required.

Vishnu’s father Jagdish Sharma had run from pillar to post to seeking help for his child failed to avail assistance and support from the district administration and Government.

Sharma told that he has applied for permission of euthanasia for all the family members as they are not able to bear the loss of the second child who is going to collapse due to lack of medication.

CMHO of Sehore Dr PK Gupta told that the disease is not covered in the schemes sponsored by the State Government but the higher authorities could help by including the disease which could provide a maximum financial help of Rs 2 lakh.

Providing the details of the disease CMHO Gupta told that it is a congenital immune deficiency disorder in which the formation of WBC is disrupted and negligible WBCs are present in the body making the immune system feeble.

It is one of the rarest disorders as only five-six cases have been reported in the country. One of the possible treatments is ‘Bone Marrow Transplant’ that is very costly treatment. On the other side for survival the medication should be continued to maintain WBCs but it will only help for the next seven-eight years.
