Congress parliamentarian and former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Governments at the Centre and State were acting with vengeance.
Scindia, in a statement here on Thursday, said, “The erstwhile UPA Government had decided to open seven medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh. The districts identified for opening these medical colleges were Chhindwara, Ratlam, Shivpuri, Shahdol, Datia, Khandwa and Vidisha. Of these seven, 12 hectares of land was identified for the Shivpuri Medical College and was transferred to the Medical Education Department of the State by the Shivpuri district collector.”
Scindia further said, “As a Union Minister I performed the Bhumi Pujan for Shivpuri Medical College on February 27, 2014. On March 24, 2014 the State Government appointed Dr PK Shrivastava as the nodal officer for the establishment of this hospital.”
He further said but after the Parliamentary elections the BJP that lost the two Parliamentary seats in State of Guna and Chhindwara recommended to shift two medical colleges from the constituencies it lost to the ones where it has won. The BJP Government was thus acting with partisan politics and had recommended to the Union Health Ministry to shift Shivpuri and Chhindwara medical colleges sanctioned by the erstwhile UPA Government to Seoni and Satna, he added.
The former union minister said that the BJP Government of Madhya Pradesh was setting a wrong tradition, Governments came and gone at State and Centre, but if the Governments would work with such narrow minded thinking then it would be very wrong in the interest of democracy.
“This could not be termed appropriate in any term. Hence the medical colleges announced earlier by the UPA Government at Shivpuri and Chhindwara should not be shifted while new colleges could be opened at Satna and Seoni. We are not opposed to opening of medical
colleges at these places but by doing this by doing injustice with the people of Chhindwara and Shivpuri is not correct,” he added.
