Congress MlA from Karera Shakuntla Khateek has received a major relief after the Supreme Court stayed her arrest in a case related to inciting mob during the farmers’ protest which led to massive unrest in the region.
The order by the apex court also retained her power to vote in the presidentisl election on July 17.
After her video inciting the farmers surfaced police enquired and later based on the investigation a case was registered but after the case was registered she went missing. Gwalior High Court’s single bench had quashed her bail plea but Supreme Court orders were in her favour which is a major relief for Congress and Karera MlA.
For the presidential election the Congress is working hard to gain momentum in its favour which seems an improbable proposition under the dominance of mighty BJP which is enjoying massive support and would make life of Congress hard in the upcoming Presidential elections.
On behalf of Khateek, Congress parliamentarian and lawyer Vivek Tankha appread in the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail and after the hearing court has stayed on the arrest of Khateek.
Notably on June 7 during farmer protest Khateek incited her supporters to torch police station and video of her inciting the supporters proved to be evidence against her in the case. The Block Congress President threatened of mass killing in the protest.
After these incidents police registered an FIR under non-bail able sections on June 13 which resulted in missing of the two. Khateek was protesting with her supporters and was annoyed of water canon used at her supporters and her after which she called her supporters to torch the police station thrice.
