The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Madhya Pradesh Government seeking reply in the defamation case against Congress leader KK Mishra. The apex court has sought reply in four weeks.
Mishra, chief spokesman of the party, had made certain allegations against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his family members. The State Government through its public prosecutor had filed a defamation complaint before the Sessions Court, Bhopal.
The Sessions Court had framed the charges against Mishra in the case. The order framing charges was challenged by Mishra before the High Court through a revision petition, which was dismissed.
later, senior advocate Vivek Tankha, on behalf of Mishra, filed an SlP in the apex court.
For the State of MP, Attorney General KK Venugopal, Advocate General PK Kaurav and standing counsel Saurabh Mishra appeared.
On the basis of the facts brought before the court, notice was issued to the State Government on Friday.
However, a Government spokesperson said that it was a major setback to Mishra, as the apex court did not give stay on the ongoing hearing in the Sessions Court. The scheduled hearing in the case is fixed for Saturday.
However, talking to 'The Pioneer', Mishra said that he did not apply in the Supreme Court for a stay on hearing in the Sessions Court.
