SBI lockers safe after intruders break in

Staff Reporter

In a failed attempt of burglary, lockers of State Bank of India (SBI) at Jawahar Chowk branch were targeted by miscreants who entered the bank by breaking a wall of the bank from an adjacent vacant house owned by Minister of Forest Gauri Shankar Shejwar.

Miscreants went fearlessly and used vacant house to enter the bank with the intention of burglary but failed to make their way through lockers in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The matter came into fore after the bank employees spotted the hole in the locker room near the lockers on Monday morning and informed the bank manager Mangal Popli who subsequently informed the police.

Police said that to enter the bank’s locker room, the miscreants entered Shejwar’s vacant house by breaking the locks and later made a hole in the adjacent wall of the bank.  The vital clue which could help the police in investigation is the CCTV camera installed in the locker room. Police have started to search the CCTV footage which could help in searching the miscreants.

Police suspect that the miscreants were inspired by the bank burglary in Haryana in which the miscreants made a tunnel to commit burglary but in this case miscreants went ahead without tunnel and used direct way by making hole in the wall.

Dents were visible around the lockers which suggest that the miscreants tried hard to break the lockers to reach the valuables but failed in their attempt and fled the spot. The miscreants were frustrated after they failed in their attempt and left their tools used in breaking the lockers which have been recovered by the police.

The bungalow of Forest Minister at MlA quarters at Jawahar Chowk is vacant for long.  Police have intensified the search for the miscreants and claimed to nab the miscreants soon.
