Saurabh Sharma, a former constable of Madhya Pradesh's transport department, is expected to surrender in the Lokayukta court of Bhopal District Court in connection with a case involving illegal property worth crores.

Sharma, who had been absconding since a raid uncovered his alleged involvement in amassing disproportionate assets, applied to surrender through his lawyer on Monday, January 27.

DSP Virendra Singh, the investigating officer in the case, was present in the court to oversee the proceedings.

Sharma's case has sparked political controversy, particularly regarding his appointment on compassionate grounds following his father's death.

After joining the department, Sharma abruptly took voluntary retirement (VRS), raising suspicions.

The Lokayukta police later raided his residence and discovered assets worth crores, including over two and a half quintals of silver, 52 kg of gold, and Rs 10 crore in cash. A luxury car was also seized during the investigation.

Sharma, along with his wife, had been evading authorities since the raid, prompting a widespread search by multiple agencies, including the Lokayukta, Income Tax Department, and Enforcement Directorate.

While Sharma's surrender marks a significant development in the case, officials have remained cautious, refraining from officially confirming his arrest.

The investigation into his sudden wealth and alleged corruption continues, with the case highlighting the need for greater scrutiny in public appointments and accountability in government departments.

The surrender of Sharma, once a modest constable turned millionaire, underscores the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and ensure transparency in Madhya Pradesh.
