Safety concerns a drag for adventure sports in Bhopal

lack of safety measures is proving dangerous to the participants in adventure sports in Bhopal. There are a lot of places for the adventure sports in the city but most of them lack basic safety measures. However, the district administration is unconcerned about this.

Some adventure sports facilities of the city including Crescent Water Park, RPM, Bhopal and the Kerwa adventure do not even have first aid boxes. However, first aid should be available at every place for the safety of the people.

Ironically, District Collector Nishant Warwade, when contacted to know about the situation, expressed ignorance about the presence of such adventure sports facilities in and around the city. He claimed that he would get the places inspected by administration officials.

Young people eager for an adrenaline rush are participating in the adventure sports like sky zipping, para-sailing, Jet Ski, paint ball, river crossing, rappelling and rock climbing without ensuring proper safety measures that could reduce the risk of serious injury.

Youngsters without referees, coaches or medical practitioner around can end up with broken bones, severe injuries or ruptured blood vessels during these adventure sports.

Proper precautions should be taken especially when children take part in an adventure sport, because their bodies are still growing and their coordination may not be fully developed. Precautions can range from wearing proper safety gear to appropriate adult supervision and enforcement of game rules.

However, the authorities concerned have failed to spread awareness among the public about the danger of ignoring safety guidelines during participating in any adventure sports.

RPM official Faisal Ahmed said that RPM has all the necessary safety measures as well as first aid boxes at different places in order to ensure the safety of the participants. However, factually, when this correspondent visited the place on November 13, first aid facility was missing.

On the other hand, Flying Fox twin racing zip lines over Kerwa Dam Bhopal is also alluring the youngsters of Bhopal. This zip line is India's longest dual zip line but still it lacks the mandatory safety measures.

Sources from the MP Eco-Tourism that has outsourced the adventure sports at Kerwa dam to Skyfall Adventure Quest Pvt ltd, said that as per rules the safety measures are inspected by the department every three months and the facilities are found upto the mark.

However, factually, ground reality is quite different from the inspection reports.
