RTI activist condemns Govt for withdrawing cases of RSS workers

SR

Right to Information (RTI) activist Ajay Dubey has demanded immediate roll back of the State Government orders to withdraw criminal cases against Shivkumar Sharma and others.

Dubey in a statement here on Tuesday said that the documents obtained through the RTI by Transparency International reveal that the Madhya Pradesh Government is all set to withdraw criminal offences like attempt to murder and rioting from the accused of the Bareli farmers firing incidence of 2012. “The Government is in the process of taking back cases from the court in the case in which a farmer Hari Singh had died on May 7, 2012 while many other farmers and police personals were seriously injured,” Dubey added.

Dubey said that the farmers’ agitation was led by president of the State unit of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), an umbrella organisation of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Shivkumar Sharma.  After the agitation Sharma and his many associates were booked in many cases under serious sections of the IPC after the police firing incident, he added.

He said Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Bharatiya Janata Party Government of the State ordered enquiry of the incidence that was done by then Additional Chief Secretary Indraleen Shankar Dhani. The report was never made public nor any action was taken on it.

He said that the MP Human Rights Commission in its enquiry of the same incidence found that police fired on the agitating famers by AK 47 that is very serious and condemnable act but no action has been taken against the guilty till now.

He also said that then BJP State president Prabhat Jha also leveled many serious allegations against Sharma and the RSS showed him doors. Sharma was arrested and put to jail and after spending many jails when he came out he announced parallel farmers’ organisation and announced to contest 2013 Assembly elections.

Just before the 2013 Assembly elections Home department of the State Government acting on instructions from the Chief Minister’s Office ordered on August 1, 2013 to the law department to withdraw cases of attempt to murder and rioting from Sharma and other accused in the public and judicial interest. The law department acting in hurry issued its orders on August 6 for the same, he added.

He said that the decision was totally political and misuse of power and we condemn it and demand its immediate roll back.
