The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) on Saturday took cognisance of bullying of a woman by a policeman and suicide of a youth due to harassment by the police and directed the SPs of Bhopal South and Guna to submit detailed reports before it.

The Commission took cognisance of bullying of a woman by Ashoka Garden Police Station in-charge

(SHO) and sought a detailed report of the incident from Bhopal South Superintendent of Police (SP). The Commission instructed him to record the statement of the victim personally and send that to the commission.

According to sources, the complainant woman said she lived in Friends Colony of Ashoka Garden and one Javed, residing in her neighborhood, put pressure on  her to smuggle drugs.  When she refused to do so, Javed brandished a knife and threatened her and her daughter of sexual assault.  Soon after the incident, she approached the Ashoka Garden Police, but they refused to file a case. On Wednesday night, when told by the SP, she again reached the police station along with her husband. But the SHO threatened her and put pressure on her not to lodge the complaint.

In another incident, the Commission took cognisance of the suicide of a youth in Guna on Thursday due to alleged police harassment. Satyendra, a resident of Mahavirpur in Guna committed suicide allegedly due to harassment and torture by the police.

Taking cognisance over the issue, the commission told the Guna SP to submit a detailed report of the incident before it.  Meanwhile, family members of the deceased  had alleged that police had put pressure on Satyendra to become informer and  hence he committed suicide.
