In a bid to reach out to the masses, Ranchi police will soon connect to people through popular messaging App WhatsApp. Talking to the mediapersons after a workshop organised at Aryabhatt Auditorium in Ranchi, DGP DK Pandey said that beat policing system was being launched in Ranchi to provide a safe and better environment through public participation.

“Under ‘Police Aapke Dwar’ Programme, every village and locality is being divided into small beats so that it becomes easy to have proper control over it. The mobile number of beat officers will be flashed among the people residing under the beat so that he could be reached easily in the hour of need,” the DGP said.

Small banners with the name and contact number of the Beat Officers will also be flashed at every nook and corner in his area so that any plaintiffs could go directly to him instead of looking up to higher officials for registering their complaints, he said.

“Complaint boxes are also being put in the residential areas so that those people who do not want to come forward could also register their complaints with the police without their names being disclosed,” said the DGP. The ultimate motive was to provide a safe environment to the citizens with their active participation under beat policing system, the DGP added.

To check increasing crime graph of the State capital, as many as 47 beats and Police Mitra have been formed whereas in the coming days, a total of 116 new beats will be inaugurated by the DGP. ‘Police Mitra’ will also play an active participation in it by providing vital information of their localities to the beat officers.

Meanwhile, the Ranchi Police will also try to create more awareness about ‘Shakti App’ in schools and colleges as it feels that the App was not downloaded as it would have been.

“The App was not downloaded by the people as per our expectation and hence, a decision has been taken to create more awareness about it in schools and colleges where posters will be put on the notice boards depicting the use of it. Short film in cinema halls will also be played to promote the App so that maximum utilization of it could be done by the people,” said IG (CID) Sampat Meena.

In addition to that, to share more and more information among the people, Ranchi police will also use WhatsApp group where some senior police officers along with Police Mitra will also be added, she said.
