Hindu outfit activists in Madhya Pradesh on Friday protested against the release of Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer ‘Dilwale’ and stopped the film’s screening at two theatres.
However, the police administration had made elaborate arrangements and before the saffron brigade activists could do anything, the cops forced them to leave the talkies at a couple of places in Bhopal.
Angered by Shah Rukhs statement on intolerance in the country, protestors shouted slogans and opposed the screening in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Ratlam and Khargone districts.
Shows for the movie were cancelled at two multiplexes in Jabalpur this morning after the activists created a ruckus and burnt the films posters. In the city, the first show could not be screened in Jyoti Talkies. Heavy police force had been deployed in view of the protest.
In Indore, activists reached a multiplex in Gandhian style and appealed to people to refrain from watching the movie by offering flowers. Meanwhile, police reached the spot and used mild force to disperse the crowd.
Six protestors were arrested in Khargone where prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in place. The first show was cancelled at a cinema house in Khargone due to protests.
Similar protests were staged in Ratlam where heavy police force was deployed. Though the agitators returned after symbolic protest, the film received subdued response.
Besides, right from the morning, on social media, a statement of Shahrukh Khan was also being circulated in the form of a video clip in which hew was shown stating that he did not care whether he was patriotic or not.
Movie critics told that in comparison to Dilwale, Bajirao Mastani attracted more crowd right from the first show to late night shows in different theatres.
