When I joined the film industry, I was only known as the nephew of superstar Dilip Kumar. But I am happy that people have liked my work and appreciate me as an actor,” says the veteran actor Ayub Khan.

Film and television actor Ayub Khan who debuted with the movie Mashooq in 1992 is well-known for his character Jogi Thakur in the daily soap Uttran aired on Colors. Ayub Khan has done various characters on the television. He has now come up with a grey shade character Rajnath Goenka on the Star Plus serial ‘Ek Hasina Thi’.

On his visit to Bhopal, Ayub Khan shared his career experiences in a short rendezvous with The Pioneer. Notably, he has given appreciable performances in films like Mrityudand, Dil Chahta Hai, Toh Baat Pakki. He soon entered the small screen and also made an identity there.

Ayub says, “Yes, I have faced many situations in my career where producers only wanted to sign me just because I am related to Dilip Sahab. But, as I signed in Prakash Jha’s Mrityudand I explored new paths of my career. Then came on way was the role in Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai. Farhan basically opened the doors of new thoughts in our performance which is still appreciable.”

Elaborating further, he said, “I have done many roles on the small screen as well of  which the most long-running is Jogi Thakur’s character and now Rajnath Goenka is a new challenge in my way.”

Talking about his new venture Ek Hasina Thi, Ayub said, “This is the first negative role I am playing on the small screen. This role was definitely a challenge for me as I have to work a lot on Rajnath’s expressions, how he thinks, how he behaves. I know Jogi Thakur, he is an established character but, suddenly as I switched over to Rajnath my main priority has become this character. So what can be more challenging to switch from Jogi to RajnathIJ”

“But it’s quite interesting as well,” he added smilingly. About the feedbacks he added, “Dilip Saheb always tells me not get satisfied with every performance as there is much to do with each character. So I have to abide by his feedback. It is really essential for me.”

As he talked more about the soap, he said, “I have earlier worked with Simone in serial Kahish and with Vatsal in film Toh Baat Pakki so I know them well. But I believe as you get familiar with people you create a fun-loving atmosphere on the sets and, of course, I enjoy there.”

About his visit to Bhopal he said, “It is my first visit and I find the city really beautiful. There are no upcoming projects in the pipeline as of now. I am concentrating on Ek Hasina Thi.”
