The third day of the Admire Theater's Facebook Online Theatrical Festival was all about the status of women in society. Here on Monday, play Pagla Ghoda was presented.
The play was directed by Sushil Kant Mishra and written by Badal Sarkar. The play was performed by the artists of Utprerak Theatre, Amshil.
Through the play, the position of women in society was presented in a very poignant manner. The play depicts a girl who commits suicide due to not getting the love of someone and not being able to bear the agony of being constantly despised. After the funeral of the girl at the crematorium, four men arrive in the middle of the night where they sit in the crematorium and repeat the love stories, and get lost in moments that may not be the turning point of their lives, but for the girl it was a turning point.
The play begins by introducing four youngsters. They are gambling in a crematorium. Kartik's girlfriend commits suicide. Suddenly her soul rises from the pyre, starts talking to all four. She is not seen by anyone. She was not seen by all the four men, but they talk about what she wants.
All of them start telling their own stories. A teacher by profession, Himadri is in love with his student's sister, the woman is inebriated, and when Himadri interrupts her, she refuses to give up the alcohol. Next story is about Satu. He saves a young woman from rape and leaves her at his friend's house. But, his friend tries to sell her and when Satu comes to know about this, he is unable to help even if he wants to, and the girl gets suicide. Karthik, a compounder by profession, tells the girl that he has loved her for seven years, but has never been able to express it when the girl's soul comes to know that she is happy and that girl's last wish is fulfilled.
Loneliness is getting dominated somewhere in life, we are always looking for who is ours, not who can share their grief and pain, these quests have been going on for centuries.
The music of the play was very melodious and many scenes are lively through the light.
