A play, ‘Shatrugandh,’ displaying the plight of an elder couple was staged in the city on Sunday evening. The play narrated a story which is known to all, but ignored by all. The play ‘Shatrugandh’ that discloses the secrets behind the wrinkled skin and teary eyes was much appreciated by the audience.
The play was performed marking the fourth day of Madhya Pradesh Rangotsav. They were living in their second-innings, with more aspirations no one understands. They almost lived their life to the fullest, sometimes sacrificed and sometimes compromised but they did all what they could for their children, but in return what they receive is just emptiness.
Directed by Saroj Sharma, the play was performed by the artists of Koshish Theatre Group, Bhopal. The story is about an elderly couple. The couple live alone in their house and their son is far away from them. Their son lives in a foreign country and does not even bother about his parents. A tragedy suddenly befalls them and how do they tackle with the problems formed rest of the story.
According to the director Saroj Sharma, “This story has been told to people enormous times, but still we have old-age homes in our country, or the parents are left alone. Every second there is an intuition of danger and each person is seen as an enemy. The play is about their emptiness and how they deal with situations at this walk of life.”
Every phase of the story showcased on stage during the play was worthwhile watching. Moreover, the acting skills, the light design and the dialogue delivery were outstanding.
