A Hindi play ‘Aashiq Daroga’ was staged under a theatre festival at Shaheed Bhavan on Tuesday.

It was organised by Rangkirti Theatre Troupe. Based on story collection ‘Mansarovar’ of Munshi Premchand, the play was directed by Dinesh Nair. It was presented by actors of Rang Madhyam Theatre Group, Bhopal.

Based on urban lifestyle, the play criticised the present social system. It is the saga of a cunning man who works in the police department. How some changes in ethical behaviour came in the police personnel have been shown effectively through the play.

Munshi Premchand also known as the Shakespeare of Hindi literature wrote the story. The core theme of the story is the price of honesty.

In this story, Premchand has painted a perfect image of a society where the State control leads to smuggling, black-marketing, and corruption.

The end of the story gives a message that people need to believe that honesty does pay.

The play was beautifully performed that left the audience spellbound.
