One of the most awaited movies of the year Piku hit the theatres on Friday. The movie was received well by the ardent fans of Irrfan, Deepika and Big B in the city.
While Piku drew house-full crowds, another release of the day Kuch Kuch locha Hai starring Sunny leone and Ram Kapoor failed to evoke a good response.
While most of the Bhopalites gave Piku the thumps up, a few admitted that that they would love to watch the movie once again.
Packed with humour, drama, comedy along with a charming and magnificent storytelling of a family drama drew the attention of the audience. It unfolds the relationship between an ageing father and his daughter.
Piku is the story of a cranky old Bengali widower Bhaskor Banerji (Amitabh Bachchan) who subjugates his paternal instincts to the health, or the lack of it, of his alimentary canal. The more trouble that the crotchety gentleman has clearing his bowels, the more difficult he becomes for everyone around him, including a harried maid who he summarily accuses of kleptomania.
Banerji has a formidable counterpoint in an equally strong-willed daughter, Piku (Deepika Padukone), a busy architect who, despite the challenges that her dad poses every waking hour, takes the man's frequent mood swings in her stride. Caught between the two is a cab service owner Rana Chaudhary (Irrfan Khan) who, as the baffled outsider in the course of a road trip that threatens to run off the rails, gives both father and daughter perspectives that promise to deliver them from the stalemate they are trapped in.
Directed by Shoojit Sircar the movie sees promising weeks ahead.
On the other hand, Kuch Kuch locha Hai did not receive much attention and the first day remained a bit cold for the movie. The comedy flick directed by Devang Dholakia stars Sunny leone, Ram Kapoor and Evlyn Sharma in lead roles. But the movie was unable to capture the attention of Bhopalites.
