Petlawad blasts: Action against officials sought

Staff Reporter

Rights activist from the State capital Ajay Dubey has demanded registration of a criminal case against the then and present Jhabua Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs).

Dubey while talking to the mediapersons on Friday said, “The initial report of the Government of India’s Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) and our correspondence with the Madhya Pradesh Government exposed serious negligence of the Collectors, SPs and other officers of the Jhabua, in which district Petlawad falls.” Notably, over 90 people have died and over 100 injured in the blasts that took in Petlawad in September.

Dubey said, “As per the Explosives Act the Collector and SP have the password of the PESO website to keep account of the explosives and inflammable goods stock and activity in the district of their charge but both, the then and present Collector and SP overlooked it resulting in major incidence.”

Dubey added that the Home Department of the State Government at the place of taking action against the guilty tried to blame PESO for the issue by writing a letter to PESO chief on September 16 that in response hinted at the failure of Collector and SP but the state government did not took any action against them. Despite claims of strong action against guilty the examination of the proofs collected by PESO from the incidence spot has not been done by the State Government’s forensic lab in Sagar till now providing benefit to the accused, he added.

He said the State Government did not took any action till now against the guilty of the Singrauli blasts that took place in 2009 killing 18, missing 6 and injured 42. The enquiry report of the magisterial enquiry and the enquiry commission constituted under principal secretary labor in this blast was never prepared making the officers of the state unbridled and putting the masses in danger, he added.
