Pecuniary jurisdiction of civil judge Class-2 and Class-1 has been enhanced through an amendment in section-6 of Madhya Pradesh Civil Courts Act through Madhya Pradesh Civil Court (Amendment) Bill.
This amendment has been made in the Act to ensure early administration of justice to litigants. According to the amendment, pecuniary jurisdiction of civil judge class-2 will now be Rs5 lakh in place of Rs2.50 lakh while that of civil judge class-1 have been increased from Rs10 lakh to Rs1 crore. At present, market rates for land have increased manifold. During the period, value of rupee has also reduced due to pressure of inflation. Very few civil cases were coming up in the courts of civil judge class-2 and class-1 as a result of fast-increasing prices of land. Very less number of civil cases were being filed in district courts due to this. The amendment has been published in Madhya Pradesh Gazette (Extraordinary) dated September 4.
