The optical shops of the city are playing with the lives of eye patients by employing untrained staff as these employees do not even have the basic knowledge of the ophthalmology.
Those employed in most of the optical shops of the city do not have any degree in eye testing or any related work.
On the other hand, the health department is totally unaware of the dilemma of the eye patients.
There are around 263 optical shops which are making spectacles but however only 50 shops have registered eye specialists.
According to an ophthalmologist there are very few registered shops which are authorized to make spectacles for the eye patients.
It is mandatory for the employees of optical shops to have optometric diploma course.
Ophthalmologist Dr Arvind Dubey says that the owners of the optical shops are prescribing eye medicine to the eye patients without any specific knowledge of the subject. This negligence of the authorities could severely harm the patients.
District Health Officer Dr Gajraj Singh Gurjar said that eye patients may face so many problems due to the wrong suggestions given by these untrained employees of the optical shops.
Chief Medical and Health Officer (CHMO) Dr SS Jadon says, “We have conducted the inspection regarding the issue. We have found that some of the optical shops are well equipped with several eye testing machines.
We will seal the shop which is employing such untrained staff,” he added.
