Staff Reporter

The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday witnessed an adjournment for 10 minutes and a walkout by the main Opposition Congress over their demand for a discussion on the situation arising out of drought in the State.

As soon as the proceedings began after the lunch recess, Congress member Ramniwas Rawat attempted to raise a point of order over the proposed discussion on drought situation under rule 139 missing from todays agenda although the same was mentioned in yesterdays agenda. Speaker Sitasaran Sharma said no point of order could be raised over the issue. Besides, the zero hour and calling attention notices have been taken up.

At that juncture, several Congress members trooped into the well of the House and started raising slogans. Amid the din, the Speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes. As soon as the House re-assembled, Deputy leader of the Opposition Bala Bachchan demanded that House take up discussion.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra took potshots at the Opposition and referred to the statement made by Congress legislator Ajay Singh made outside the House that the Opposition has lost its aggressiveness in the absence of leader of the Opposition Satyadev Katare.

He said the Opposition is using the floor of the House for their internal politics.

The Speaker ruled that a special session was already convened earlier for a discussion on the drought situation.

In this session also, several questions, calling attention notices and zero hour notices were received and discussed on the same issue. Hence, he did not find further discussion on the issue necessary. Dissatisfied by the Speakers ruling, opposition members staged a walkout.
