SR

The Opposition parties in Madhya Pradesh will hold statewide demonstrations against the proposed rail fare hike on Wednesday, the day the raise is scheduled to be come into force, as also to register protest over spiraling commodity prices.

The main Opposition Congress would hold sit-in demonstration in the state Capital's Budhwara Charbatti Square while the Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) would hold demonstrations at all the railway stations of the state. The Congress demonstration in the state Capital would be led by the grand old party's former state spokesman Arif Masood while the CPI-M protest would be led by its Member of Central Committee and state secretary, Badal Saroj.

Masood in a statement here on Tuesday informed that a sit-in demonstration would be held at Budhwara Charbatti Square from 2.30 pm to lodge protest against rail fare price hike and increasing commodity prices including lPG gas, petrol, sugar, onion and others.

Masood said, "Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party betrayed the people of the country for gaining power. The hike in rail fare and rise in commodity prices expose that the government that came to power by promising to reduce inflation has backtracked from its promises and the continuous rising prices have made the common man's life miserable."

He said that if these are the indications for good days as promised by the BJP then the people should remain ready for even worse days as this indicates that the general budget to be presented by the Modi government in the next month would bring in more hardships.

Meanwhile, Badal in a statement said that the CPM would hold statewide demonstrations at railway stations to register its protest against the rail fare hike. "The increased fare should immediately be rolled back besides more facilities should be provided to the rail passengers," the left Front party demanded.
