While Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was replying to a discussion on an adjournment notice in the State Assembly on Wednesday, the main Opposition Congress staged a walk out being dissatisfied over the reply.
Chouhan was replying over hardships being faced by peasants after demonetisation, when acting leader of the Opposition Bala Bachchan said that the term ‘demonetisation' was not mentioned in his notice.
Speaker Sitasaran Sharma pointed out that the discussion was in the context of note ban and the issue has been mentioned in notices received. He said that the discussion by Opposition members had revolved around the topic.
Soon after the walkout led by Bachchan, Chouhan said, "I have never seen a weaker opposition that does not have the courage to listen to reply of the discussion. The Opposition has insulted democracy and public."
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra announced that the House condemned the behaviour
of the Opposition and received support from ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members.
Earlier, the Chief Minister stated that the Congress is confused over demonetisation and had changed its stance over the issue both
at the Centre as well as in the State. He said that the decision has been taken in national interest and would help in curbing black money, corruption and terrorism.
Chouhan admitted that note ban would cause inconveniences for short-term but eventually prove beneficial in the long run.
