A 65-year-old man in Sidhi, committed suicide by jumping into the burning pyre of his grandson, his grandson had committed suicide after killing his wife with an axe on Friday.

The old man was depressed and was in shock by this incident. The incident took place in Siholia village of Bahri police station area.

Police said that on Friday, Abhay Raj Yadav (34) killed his wife Savita Yadav (30) with an axe. Abhay Raj had hit his wife's neck with an axe 5 times. After this, he committed suicide by hanging himself. The last rites of both were being performed at around 9 pm on Friday night. Abhay Raj's grandfather Ramavtar Yadav (65) jumped into the burning pyre of his grandson and daughter-in-law.

Around 9 am on Saturday, a villager found a half-burnt body next to a burning pyre near the field. The villagers informed the family about this. The body was identified as Ram Avtar. The police have sent the body for postmortem.

According to the villagers, Ramavatar was shocked by the death of his grandson and daughter-in-law. Abhay Raj and Savita have two children. The family now has sons Munna Yadav (8 years) and Ragini Yadav (5 years).

Abhay Raj's neighbor, on the condition of anonymity, said that there were frequent fights between Abhay Raj and Savita. 5 days ago, Abhay Raj had beaten Savita badly. He was a drug addict. He used to take alcohol along with ganja and corex. Savita used to oppose drugs. There was a fight between the two on Friday also regarding this matter. When Savita refused to let him come home after consuming alcohol, he attacked her with an axe. He used to work as a wall painter in Mumbai. He used to visit the village occasionally.

Abhay Raj's relative Shivesh Yadav said that I often stay in Narmadapuram. I came to know about the murder and suicide at around 11 am on Friday. When I reached here on Saturday morning, I came to know about this second incident.

Ramavatar had a deep affection for Abhay Raj. Two-three years ago, another elder father of ours had died. His children had also died. Because of this, he was very upset. It seems that he had lost his mental balance. Then he jumped into the pyre and gave up his life.

Ramavtar's second grandson Avadhesh told that grandfather respected Abhay Raj a lot. He used to live with him. If there was any work, he would give money to him and get it done. Yesterday we were all going for the last rites of brother and sister-in-law, but grandfather refused to go there.

He said, I will not see all this. Everyone was together at night. When we gave him food, he refused. He stayed awake till around 12 in the night. Then everyone slept. When we looked in the morning, he was nowhere to be found. All the people of the house first looked in the nearby well, then enquired with the people. When he was not found anywhere, we went to Abhay's pyre.
