Officer has misused position to help NGO, says RTI activist

Staff Reporter

Ajay Dubey, a Bhopal-based right to information activist, alleged on Thursday that a senior officer of Woman and Child Development has misused his position to benefit a non-government organisation (NGO).

In a letter written to Women and Child Development Minister Ranjana Baghel, Dubey has stated

that senior Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer Manohar Agnani who is currently posted in the department has diverted public funds for running and maintenance of the website of the NGO named ‘Bitiya’.

Dubey has claimed in the letter that the firm which has registered the website of ladli laxmi Yojna (a scheme run by Women and Child Development ministry) has also registered the website of the NGO. He has alleged in the letter that he has in hand information which proves that the maintenance of the website of the NGO is done at public expense which is against rules and procedure.

Dubey has further alleged that IAS officer Agnani is also misusing his influential position to benefit the NGO in many other ways which are against law and which shows rampant financial irregularity in the ministry. He has demanded that an impartial probe into the matter should be immediately initiated by the ministry.

Meanwhile, Shilpi Agnani, who is associated with the NGO ‘Bitiya’ and is also wife of the IAS officer named by Dubey, refused to comment on the allegations raised by Dubey.

Notably, the NGO works for spreading awareness on issues related to girl-child and condition of women in society.
