With a view to ensure transparency and curb delay in distribution of food grains under targeted public distribution system in the State, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has started system of shop-wise allotment of food grains from the State-level.
Under the system launched from June this year, information about allotment of food grains is also being displayed on Samagra Portal of Social Security Mission for the benefit of people. Any person in the State can see information on this website regarding his eligibility, quantity of materials to be supplied and prices. Which family is covered by which fair price shop, what is the total number of eligible families linked with that shop can also be seen on the website. Food grains and kerosene are being provided on subsidised prices through about 22,000 fair price shops in the State.
Conduct of 248 fair price shops has been handed over to joint forest management committees so that forest dwellers of remote areas can also get food grains on fair prices.
Subsidised sugar was provided through the PDS to only 57.52 lakh people in year 2003-04. Following abolishment of sugar levy policy by the Central Government in year 2014, 1.10 crore families in the state are being provided subsidised sugar per month through open tender. The state government is spending Rs60 crore per annum on distribution of sugar through open tender.
