PNS

The Cantonment Board, Mhow has issued notices to more than 600 houses of all the eight wards of Mhow, as they do not have septic tanks in their houses and are either defecating in open or draining the human excreta.

The worst condition is in ward 2 consisting of Sanghi Street, Dana Gali, Raja Gali and its adjacent parts. The notices have been issued under the Cantonment Board Act 289 C. The board has warned the house owners to construct the septic tank and inform the cantonment board officials within 15 days or a legal case will be imposed against the house owner.

Cantonment Board CEO Rajendra Pawar told The Pioneer that people should be aware and responsible for the society as discarding the human waste directly in the drains can result in spreading many acute diseases and it also pollute the water resources. During the rainy season the condition becomes miserable as the dirt starts flowing on the roads where the drains are choked. Many people have encroached upon the drainage land and had constructed pillars and walls of their buildings in the drains. Till the time the illegal construction in the drainage is not demolished it is very difficult to overcome the problem of choked drains, he added.

Pawar further said that people can construct the septic tank individually or collectively. It is surprising that intellectuals and well educated people who are living in costly houses have not made the septic tank and are ignoring their social responsibility, he added.
