In need of passport, several devotees might be deprived of Haj pilgrimage. The devotees are moving pillar to post for the past one month to get their passport in time, but to no avail.
As per rules, the aspirants have to submit a copy of the passport with the application form meant for Haj pilgrimage. Despite having applied two months ago, the applicants are not able to get the passport. After having completed the police verification at their residences, when they approach the passport office, they are informed that the verification is still pending.
Haneef Mohammad of Damoh came down to Bhopal from Damoh to appeal at the public hearing of police headquarters (PHQ) at the PTRI. His 70-year-old father Ghulam Mohammad has applied for the passport, but the police verification has not been cleared by the PHQ.
Similar is the case of Akbar Khan and Beli Khan of Rajgarh who were the victims of the delay by the officials at the PHQ, although the police verification at their residences were conducted months ago and when they approached the Superintendent of Police office they were told that the passport documents were forwarded to the PHQ on January 31 and were told to contact the PHQ.
Haneef Mohammed claimed that the police verification of his father was done on February 1 and the documents are with the PHQ but the delay would cost dearer as it may ruin the chances of her father visiting holy pilgrimage. He is 70 years old and when he could get next chance is not ascertain.
One of the affected persons of this delay is Azeem Khan a Hinotia resident of the state capital has undergone the verification process on January 15, 2013 but still his passport is pending with the PHQ.
Khan alleged that the police have provided information about an official posted at the PHQ but he occasionally picks the calls and is not concerned about completing the process to help the Haj pilgrims, whereas the passport office has provided a dedicated window for the Haj pilgrims.
