No plans of shifting base post poll loss: Chouhan

Staff Reporter

Outgoing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here on said on Thursday that he has no plans of shifting base to Delhi despite the recent loss in State Assembly elections.

Shivraj had three consecutive terms as the CM of the state but will now have to exit office for a Congress leader. While there have been speculations that a leader of his stature may be given a national role by BJP, Shivraj said he plans to continue working for the people of Madhya Pradesh. "I will not go to the centre. I shall like in Madhya Pradesh and die in Madhya Pradesh," he told media persons here at the State BJP headquarters.

Chouhan has decided that he would go on Abhar (Gratitude) Yatra soon starting from Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh.

The yatra however holds significance on two accounts- First –the Lok Sabha elections are around and Chouhan wants to invest his energy in ensuring a impressive result from Madhya Pradesh.

Secondly, through the Abhar Yatra (Thanks Giving journey), Chouhan wants to keep himself politically relevant sensing the fact it was not his personal defeat in assembly polls as he almost reached out to the magical figure despite BJP being in power for 15 years and pitted against anti-incumbency.

The yatra would cover all the 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh via road route.

The party is yet to announce any date for commencement of the yatra but it could well be undertaken in January.

Chouhan due to his inclination towards yatras had earned the distinction of Panv-Panv wale bhaiya (one who always remains on foot).
