A compilation of three short stories 'Renu Ki Thumariya' was staged at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhawan here on Monday to mark the concluding day of a five-day theatre est.

Directed and conceptualized by noted theatre director Devendra Raj Ankur and presented by students of the Madhya Pradesh School of Drama (MPSD) as their annual presentation, the play is based on short stories by Fanishwarnath Renu.

The play began with the story 'Raspriya'. It is a story of a character Mridangiya who loves the daughter of his guru from whom he takes training of Mridang player. But he leaves her as some misunderstanding happens between them. As years pass he forgets things. Suddenly he meets a child Mohan and is attracted by his innocence. Somewhere he feels some glimpses of his lover Ganpatiya in him. At end of play he discovers that Mohan is his son.

The genre of this play was love story as well as emotional feelings. Raspriya is also a singing folk style of Mithila, Bhiar , which has now began to extinct due to urbanization.  Renu tried to depict the time of extincting such types of styles which connects to mass and life.

Another story of comedy genre 'Panchlight' was also staged. It is a story of a village where the panch of Mahto Toli purchases patromax on the occasion of Ramnwami. Everyone becomes happy to see patomax and begins to call it punchlight. But problem arises when it is discovered that no one knows how to use it. Only Gulari Kaki knows how to operate it who is boycotted by village. She does so because he sings songs for her daughter Munri to who he loves.   But at the end of play they have to call Godhan for lighting punchlight.

The play concluded with the story 'Jadauo Mukhda'.  This was another comedy story which narrates the tale of a professor and his family who is worried about the black mole on the cheek of her daughter. They try hard to remove it but finally drop the idea when they realise that it's a natural and she looks beautiful with it too.

The stories were staged splendidly and the performance by the students grabbed much applauses of the audience.

Further, the students of new session 2014-15 were also present on the occasion to give their introduction. The new session of MPSD would begin here on Wednesday.
