The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission took cognizance of laxity of staff at Sagar district hospital and medical college that caused the death of a newborn.
The Commission has asked for detailed report from the Principal Secretaries of Medical Education and Health departments under section 13 (2) of the Human Rights Protection Act 1993.
The Commission believed that the Hospital and Bundelkhand medical college, Sagar violated the human rights of the pregnant woman. The pregnant woman was not treated properly and the delivery was not conducted in time that caused her severe mental and physical stress.
The district hospital and medical college tossed her between each other by referring to the other. At last, she had delivery on the hospital floor and the newborn died in a while.
Notably, Durgaprasad of Gaurjhamar had taken his 21-year-old pregnant wife Ranu in 108 ambulance for delivery to the district hospital, Sagar where the staff did not accept the case and referred to Bundelkhand Medical College. However, the medical college staff also refused accepting the case. This caused them to toss between district hospital and medical college. At 4 pm Ranu had delivery on the hospital floor and the newborn died within few minutes.
Taking cognizance of the news published in different newspapers, the State Human Rights Commission and sought detailed report on the matter from the Principal Secretaries of Medical Education and Health departments. Besides, the MPHRC has also asked the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Sagar and Dean of Medical College to appear before a single bench of the Commission on April 21 and submit a detailed report.
